Battell and Read Chapter, NSDAR | New Castle, Delaware

The Battell and Read Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), organized on October 15, 2022! The chapter is based in Historic New Castle, Delaware, home of Separation Day, the day “the lower 3 counties” voted to break away from Pennsylvania, on June 15, 1776, and became Delaware. Separation Day is celebrated every year on the second Saturday in June. Modern Daughters endeavor to uphold the mission of the NSDAR to encourage historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

The DAR Application Process, We are Here to Help!

Your first step toward membership in the DAR begins with establishing your lineage.

Any woman is eligible for membership who is at least 18 years of age and can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. Although it is possible to prove a new ancestor, it is much easier to link your line to an ancestor already proven and identified by the DAR. These proven ancestors, and much more information, can be found through the Genealogical Research System (GRS) on the NSDAR website. This resource is free of charge and open to the public.

For your first three generations, you, your parents, and your grandparents, you will need to provide copies of proof of dates and places for each birth, marriage, and death. This is most often in the form of birth, marriage, and death certificates.

Active and Engaged

Our members are involved in a wide range of projects, including conservation,  service to veterans and active-duty military, genealogy, and women’s issues.

Community Focused

We work with local veterans’ homes to address their needs, partner with local historical associations, and work within our local schools regarding Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corp (JROTC), essay contests, scholarship information, and other needs.

Honoring Our History

We mark the graves of American Revolutionary War Patriots, honor the fallen on Memorial Day, celebrate Independence Day, and commemorate Constitution Week.
